Departure of Sun's Jabbar Shouldn't Impact Channel

Sun Microsystems

Jabbar announced his retirement and introduced his successor, Robert Youngjohns, most recently Sun's president of Europe, Middle East and Africa, during the company's earnings call on Thursday.

One Texas-based Sun solution provider, who asked to remain anonymous, said that while Sun seems to be in a tailspin over Jabbar's retirement, "his departure doesn't impact us."

"Another Sun executive left?" said a Calif.-based Sun partner when told the news. He agreed that, while price competition between solution providers is on the rise, the departure of Jabbar will have no impact on his business.

John Murphy, executive vice president of Advanced Systems Group, a Denver-based Sun solution provider, said he was not surprised by the resignation of Jabbar or of former president and COO Ed Zander. "Fifteen years as a Sun VAR gives you an insight," Murphy said.

Murphy, who just returned from the GE Access New Frontiers event, said he likes the changes going on at Sun despite the rash of departures, and looks forward to business improving this year, although not to 1999 levels. "They now have a better vision and focus on what needs to be done," he said.
