Sprint Names Len Lauer Head Of PCS

The appointment, announced Monday, is effective immediately. Lauer replaces Charles E. Levine, who is retiring.

Lauer, 45, had been head of the company's Global Markets Group and joined Sprint in 1998 from Bell Atlantic-New Jersey, where he was president and chief executive officer.

"During his career, Len Lauer has demonstrated the ability to successfully lead large, diverse organizations," Sprint president and chief executive officer William T. Esrey said. "His background in sales and marketing, combined with his operational experience, make him well suited to lead our wireless operation."

Ronald T. LeMay, Sprint president and chief operating officer, will lead the Global Markets Group until a permanent replacement for Lauer is named, Sprint said. Sprint's global markets group includes its business and consumer long-distance operations.
