Linksys Adds Extra Security To Broadband Router

Linksys

The company said the EtherFast Firewall Cable/DSL Router, released Tuesday, adds a number of security features, including Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI), which polices inboard requests arriving from the Internet, along with protection from IP spoofing, Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, pings of death and internal snooping.

The router also provides support for up to two VPN IPSec tunnels for remote workers. Additionally, business administrators have the ability to enact URL and time filtering as well block proxy, Java, Active X and cookies, according to Linksys officials.

The new router from Linksys comes standard with a four-port switch. The device is expected to be $119, about $30 higher than the company's traditional broadband routers.
