Fujitsu Computer Products of America has begun bundling full versions of Adobe Acrobat 5.0 with its entire line of fi scanners.
"We feel we are increasing the value of the scanner at the point of purchase," said Scott Francis, senior product marketing manager for Fujitsu's Imaging Products Group, based here. "We're also helping our partners who push the product line to maximize their solution at the end-user site."
The fi series of scanners is Fujitsu's newest generation of products, ranging in price from $1,000 to $30,000. The offer is available exclusively through Fujitsu's channel partners, Francis said.
"We wanted to make our scanners more versatile and set the benchmark for the standard," he said, adding that the software will be bundled permanently with the scanners.
Francis said Fujitsu is working with its partners that also offer Adobe products to determine the impact of the bundle on their business. "We are finding that some partners that have been selling a hybrid solution now can offer consulting services [for the same price or a leaner [lower-priced solution," he said.
In addition, he said, the scanner/software bundle may open new customer opportunities for partners, which have customarily targeted vertical markets such as government and financial.
"In targeting nontraditional markets, this gives us more avenues," he said.
