Spiffed Up Ventura 10 Offers PDF, XML Options

Designed to work with Corel's XMetaL 3 XML creation program, Ventura 10 is targeted at enterprises looking for a single-source application for publishing content-rich media, said Shawn Henderson, product manager at Corel.

Because content can be interchanged between the two programs, companies can create documents for print and online media almost simultaneously. The program also now supports importing and creating tags for Microsoft Word, he said.

Ventura 10 also creates PDF files as well as table tags for formatting and updating multiple tables simultaneously. Other features include advanced prepress options such as the ability to include crop marks, printing options for bitmap images and a color management dialog box.

Henderson said the application is especially attractive for document-intensive financial, government and manufacturing verticals, enabling companies, he said.

Ed Lorenti, account manager at First Consulting Group, said the XML integration capabilities will make Ventura 10 a popular product with the Long Beach, Calif.-based solution provider's pharmaceutical and life sciences customers.

"I think this will be attractive because of the ease of use and efficiencies that could be gained," he said. "The process [of converting to XML is very labor-intensive, and the more economies of scale [companies can gain, the better it is for their bottom line."

Ventura 10 will list for $699. A $249 upgrade for prior versions is available.
