IBM VAR Sirius Makes Second Acquisition This Month

The move followed Sirius' acquisition earlier this month of Symatrix Technology, a $33 million revenue solution provider in Beaverton, Ore.

The agreement to acquire Strategic was signed on Monday and is expected to close by the end of the month, a Sirius spokesperson said. Financial details were not revealed.

Strategic, which focuses strictly on the IBM server platform but also has a lively Cisco Systems practice, has about eight people in a single office in Houston and has a yearly revenue of about $8 million, the spokesperson said. Alan Anderson, president of Strategic, will join Sirius in a senior sales position.

While Sirius already has an office in Houston, it did not have as big a customer base as the company liked and as a result will be folded into the Strategic operation, the spokesperson said. No layoffs are expected as a result of the acquisition, the spokesperson said.

There is a "high probability" that Sirius will make more acquisitions in early 2003, the spokesperson said.
