Retail Software Developer To Cut Workforce 13 Percent

The company said Tuesday it will eliminate about 170 jobs and has offered to move more than 150 developers and client-support employees in the United States and United Kingdom to Scottsdale, said Chris Magnuson, chief financial officer.

JDA, which supplies software that helps retailers manage inventories, employs about 1,300 people worldwide and has 4,600 retail, manufacturing and wholesale clients in 60 countries.

Sales of its software licenses were below company expectations in September but JDA's chief executive Jim Armstrong said the reorganization is not related to the business slowdown and had been planned for six months.

In trading Wednesday on the Nasdaq Stock Market, JDA Software shares rose 2 cents to close at $9.80.
