EDS, Xerox Create Managed Output Services Offerings

The Managed Output Services (MOS) offering aims to help new and existing EDS customers, mainly those in the enterprise space, optimize office output devices such as printers and copiers through technology assessments performed by Xerox, as well as suggest new output devices, said Nancy Morris, vice president and general manager of Xerox's Office Systems Group, Rochester, N.Y.

"This is an extension of a preferred vendor agreement that Xerox and EDS signed earlier this year," Morris said. "Both companies are interested in helping our customers grow revenue and increase their satisfaction."

Under MOS, Xerox will perform an "office document assessment," in which Xerox employees will review and suggest ways to streamline a customer's existing output infrastructure by analyzing the workflow and identifying bottlenecks, Morris said. Xerox also will manage the existing infrastructure regardless of brand, including servicing and supplies, to provide one point of contact for all of a customer's office equipment.

MOS includes recommendations of new Xerox hardware to help increase utilization, Morris added.

In developing MOS, "we wanted [to partner with someone who is hardware-independent," said Jerry DeAngelo, senior marketing consultant for marketing and portfolio-management information solutions at EDS, based here.

Under the partnership, EDS manages the customer relationship, with Xerox acting in a more services-oriented role, DeAngelo said. Customers can realize double-digit savings if they implement the strategies outlined in the Office Document Assessment, he said.

MOS is now available to EDS' U.S. customers and eventually will be available to its global customers, DeAngelo said. Pricing varies, depending on the size of the organization.
