Compuware Upgrades J2EE Developer Tools

Compuware OptimalJ 3.0 includes tools for the entire application development team, as well as expanded support for third-party Integrated Development Environments (IDEs). Compuware also extended the software's capabilities for integrating legacy systems.

The software implements the Object Management Group's (OMG) Model Driven Architecture (MDA) in its entirety, designed to allow companies to design software more quickly while also improving quality and reusability of code.

Version 3.0 of the software adds a developer-focused edition to the existing Architecture and Professional Editions. OptimalJ Developer Edition is designed to allow developers to focus on code customization, debugging, tuning and testing. The software is designed to allow architects, designers and developers to work together on a common application in an iterative development process.

New plug-ins support integration with additional IDEs, including IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer and SunONE Studio. The software also includes its own IDE and supports leading application servers, databases and modeling tools.

For legacy integration, OptimalJ 3.0 adds support for IMS/TM to existing CICS/COBOL integration capabilities.

OptimalJ allows developers to use the OMG Unified Modeling Language (UML), which describes the application business model, to automatically generate Java files, Java Server Pages, servlets and entity beans.

The software is priced starting at $800 per named developer for the Developer Edition, $5,000 per named developer for the Professional Edition, and $10,000 per named architect for the Architecture Edition.
