MPC Unveils Sub-$1,500 Server With Serial ATA

The NetFRAME 600 features up to a pair of Intel Xeon processors, as much as 8GB of two-way interleaving SDRAM, five hard disk bays, and an integrated dual Ethernet network card with both 10/100 and 1Gb ports.

The server can be ordered with either Serial ATA or SCSCI hard drives and controllers. Serial ATA, MPC said, combines the reliability of SCSI with the larger capacity of IDE-based drives, and results in a more affordable drive-packed server.

A sample configuration of the NetFRAME 600--with 256MB of memory, a Serial ATA RAID controller, and an 80GB Serial ATA hard drive--is priced at $1,399.
