AMD Launches Logo Program For Opteron, Athlon 64 Lines

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based chip maker said its AMD64 Logo Program would be used to identify hardware and software that's been developed to work with either its Athlon 64 processors for desktops or its Opteron chips for servers.

The Opteron was launched in April and the Athlon 64 is slated to be launched next month.

According to the company, the logo program is open to any technology developer that tests its products for compatibility with Athlon 64 or Opteron processors--including the ability to run both 32-bit and 64-bit software on the same processor. AMD said third-party developers will test the technology themselves, and the use of its logo is not an endorsement of the third-party product.

AMD has established three separate AMD64 logos--one general logo, one tailored specifically for products that use or work with Athlon 64 chips, and one tailored for those that work with Opteron processors.
