Verizon Wireless, Citrix and Zumasys Roll Out New Mobile Solution

The companies say the significance of this particular rollout, from San Diego-based Continental Laboratory Products (CLP), lies in its enabling users to access information at speeds faster than any other commercially available wide-area wireless service in the United States. CLP manufactures biological molecular research tools.

Based on 3G, wide-area technology, the solution combines Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server and Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess high-speed wireless service.

Zumasys, a solution provider based in Lake Forest, Calif., brought together the mobile solution for CLP that includes 2.5-lb. Panasonic Toughbooks, MetaFrame Presentation Server and the PC5220 manufactured by Sierra Wireless.

Verizon says with data transmission bursts up to 2 Mbps, BroadbandAccess customers can download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment, such as a small PowerPoint presentation, or receive three digital photographs in less than three seconds.

The combination now gives CLP's San Diego and Washington D.C., sales reps secure access to applications via Verizon Wireless' Broadband access service.

As part of the announcement, Verizon noted that it expects to expand availability of its BroadbandAccess service beyond San Diego and Washington D.C. later this year.
