D-Link, SMC Unveil 802.11g products

D-Link, Fountain Valley, Calif., unveiled a new business-class outdoor 802.11g access point that promises to deliver point-to-point and multipoint connectivity up to 600 meters.

The new AirPremier Outdoor Wireless Access Point (DWL-2700AP) will carry a list price of $1,499 with a one-year warranty and technical support, including firmware upgrades.

Features include a wireless distribution system that offers four operational modes: access point, wireless repeater access point to access point bridging, and point-to-multipoint bridging. It also provides enterprise-level SNMP management and security features, including IEEE 802.1x user-based authentication, according to D-Link.

At the same time, SMC, Irvine, Calif., unveiled a new 802.11g wireless bridge aimed at bridging two or more wired LANs.

The SMC2586W-G EliteConnect Wireless Bridge, priced at $700, comes with a detachable antenna and three operational modes to be configured as an access point/bridge, bridge master or bridge slave, according to SMC.
