Wireless Vendors Take Wraps Off New Products At CTIA

Vendors touting new wireless wares included LG Electronics, Nokia, Texas Instruments and Tessco Technologies. Others, such as Cisco Systems and palmOne, talked about how they're refining their marketing messages and efforts.

For instance, Carl Lan, business marketing manager at palmOne, said the company is working particularly hard to establish ISV partnerships aimed at specific vertical markets.

"The real estate market is a great example of where we are developing mobile solutions," said Lan, who also cited the health-care and education markets as natural fits for mobile solutions. Lan said palmOne is offering a vertical Webinar series dedicated to these, and other, vertical markets.

Texas Instruments (TI), meanwhile, unveiled its third-generation 802.11 mobile WLAN chipset designed for mobile devices such as cell phones, smartphones and PDAs. Due later this year, the chipset can be configured for 802.11 b/g or 802.11 a/b/g operation using different WLAN radio frequencies, according to TI.
