IAnywhere Solutions plans to unveil Monday a new version of its M-Business Anywhere Web-based mobile platform that includes support for tablet PCs and laptops and offline access to Web applications.
The new mobile middleware adds to iAnywhere's mobile solution arsenal, which should soon include Atlanta-based XcelleNet's mobile management software solutions. Dublin, Calif.-based Sybase, which owns iAnywhere, announced on April 2 a $95 million cash deal to acquire XcelleNet.
Dan Elliott, vice president of mobile business solutions at CompuCom Systems, a Dallas-based solution provider, said the move brings together more complementary enterprise mobile products and is good news for the channel.

Add the M-Business Anywhere's expanded support for tablets and laptops, said Diana Ungersma, senior product manager at iAnywhere, and the company moves closer to meeting the corporate need for end-to-end mobile solution sets.
"In the past, our focus was on PDA and Pocket PC devices," said Ungersma. "Expanded support for laptops gives us broad coverage in terms of mobile devices and means companies can deploy the same application across that spectrum of devices."
The offline access to Web applications, for example, allows users to disconnect from the network, continue to use applications offline and then submit network data changes and updates at the end of the day, she said.
"There's a lot of management we've added on the back end to make that work offline," said Ungersma. Other new features include client software in a variety of different languages available from one server to allow for global deployments managed from a central location.
New user tracking and reporting features let companies keep track of deployed mobile devices and how they are being used, said Ungersma. Per-user deployment licenses are priced from $69 to $299, depending on specific customer requirements, she said.
Rob Veitch, director of business development at iAnywhere, said once the XcelleNet acquisition is completed, which is expected in the second quarter,iAnywhere will look to recruit more partners with vertical expertise in retail and other markets that involve mobile workers, such as health care and utilities.
