Sybase To Acquire XCelleNet In $95 Million Cash Deal

XcelleNet, an Atlanta, Ga.-based "frontline" management software company is best known for its Point of Action approach to software solutions. The addition of the new mobile solutions, said John Chen, chairman and chief executive officer for Sybase, Dublin, Calif., in a released statement, would round out iAnywhere's enterprise remote and mobile system offerings.

The new solutions would also boost Sybase's "unwired enterprise" portfolio, said Chen. The all-cash deal, funded by investment firm Francisco Partners, Menlo Park, Calif., is expected to close during the second quarter and would include Sybase gaining about 2,200 of XcelleNet's global customers.

The acquisition also comes with expanded relationships with key XcelleNet partners such as Microsoft and Hewlett Packard. Francisco Partners, a large technology-focused private equity firm would oversee the acquisition, pending all regulatory approvals.
