SecureWave Partners With Novell To Protect Data

Under the agreement, Novell will resell and position SecureWave's flagship Sanctuary next to Novell's ZENWorks software asset-management platform.

Sanctuary addresses the growing problem of sensitive data being leaked from the corporate network through unauthorized access by helping companies develop policies for controlling access to applications and endpoint devices such as desktops, notebooks, and wireless devices, said Dennis Szerszen, vice president of marketing and corporate strategy at SecureWave.

"The endpoint is kind of the final frontier from a security perspective, and giving enterprises the ability to control which devices can be used, and by whom, is the key to preventing data leaks," Szerszen said.

SecureWave Sanctuary 3.2 supports Novell eDirectory, a directory services solution similar to Windows Active Directory, said Szerszen. "It's easy to link [Sanctuary] to eDirectory, and technologically it's a very good match."

Including support for Novell eDirectory also allows administrators to keep track of blocked attempts to access sensitive corporate data using removable media, providing a way for companies to demonstrate compliance with data security regulations, added Szerszen.

There are many security products on the market for locking down desktops, but what many of these products lack is a directory, says Al Mazlowski-Yerges, practice manager for security at Novacoast, a solution provider in Santa Barbara, Calif. "[Existing products] don't have a way of identifying individuals and devices very well, which is why there is good strategic advantage being tied together with Novell's eDirectory," Mazlowski-Yerges said

SecureWave seeks to raise its profile in the channel by tapping into Novell's channel experience and enlisting Novell channel partners, Szerszen said.

SecureWave, which is based in Luxembourg and has offices in Herndon, Va. and Durham, N.C., started its U.S. channel program two years ago and has signed up close to 80 partners, he said .
