March 15, 2007 1:57 PM ET
The rugged market is a lucrative one for solution providers that sell to the government. To up the number of options available to customers, Twinhead has launched two new models from its ruggedized notebook line that feature faster processors and enhanced security features.
The Durabook D13RY is a mobile multimedia center with 13.3-inch WXGA TFT LCD screen, 1.3-megapixel webcam and four 1-watt stereo speakers, while the D14RY includes a non-glare 14.1-inch XGA TFT LCD display for users in transit.
Both models tout a magnesium-ally case that is 20 times stronger than ABS plastic, with a mounting design and HDD cable design that absorb shock; an optical disk tray lock prevents ejection from vibrations. The Durabooks meet the performance standard of the military, able to withstand drops of 29 inches onto hard surfaces. Keyboards and touchpads are insulated by a spill-resistant design, and double protection smart battery circuitry prevents damage from surges and overheating. The models also include Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processors, Centrino Duo mobile technology and the Pro/Wireless LAN 3945 ABG network connection.
To enhance security, users can opt for the Trusted Platform Module 1.2, the hardware-based security technology that provides a secure environment for mobile data protection and meets the international standard created by the nonprofit Trusted Computing Group.
