Tech Data is expanding its solutions center to provide more options in physical security and access control for school systems and the first-response community.
Unveiled a year ago, Tech Data's 4,500-square-foot TDSolutions Center houses a range of solutions, valued at more than $5 million, from more than 120 manufacturers and software developers.
"Our commercial customers have really been taking advantage of the [solution center] for sales and training," said Barb Miller, Barb Miller, vice president of government and technical and integration services. "But the government resellers don't come in as often. It's really a separate customer [base], with little overlap, so we tried to figure out what we could bring in to meet their requirements."
Specifically, Tech Data plans to incorporate document imaging, IP communications, physical and network security, and presentation and videoconferencing solutions, with an increased focus on solutions that incorporate IP surveillance and identity authentication.
Tech Data also is hinting at a new partnership with a software vendor that offers open applications that run on all of the various surveillance cameras offered.
"With IP cameras, [first responders] can see around a corner before they even get there, by linking surveillance cameras to their handheld devices," said Bob Shouse, Tech Data senior manager of the physical security specialized business unit. "And in school, systems are being installed to increase security controls. It's still new, but this area is really growing."
