Noting the growing trend toward telecommuting in government, plus the transition by agencies from phone to Internet communications, Toshiba America Information Systems has launched the enhanced Video Communication Solution (VCS) 2.0 for its Strata CIX family of Voice Over IP (VoIP) communication systems.

Offering point-to-point (P2P) videoconferencing, desktop/application sharing, file transfer and message board capabilities for up to three parties,'VCS 2.0 incorporates video telephony to any Strata end point, including IP, digital telephones and softphones, and can be networked with other systems using Strata Net. A collaboration console allows users to initiate communication for which participants can share a Windows desktop or application, send files or post messages to a message board.

VCS 2.0 comes preinstalled with Toshiba's Media Application Server (MAS) platform, and includes a free trial license. To install VCS on a Strata system, users need the'Strata CIX, Strata Media Application Server, endpoints,'VCS client software and a'USB camera for video. Prices vary.
