Tech Data To Offer Red Hat Training For Linux

Linux software certification

The Clearwater, Fla.-based distributor will offer 25 courses for resellers to both purchase and take and to resell to become certified as a Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT) or a Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).

RHCT certification is designed for those transitioning all or part of an environment to a Linux-based platform. RHCE then expands that to network configuration services and security on servers running the Red Hat Linux operating system and for resellers looking to deploy and manage Linux systems.

"Red Hat is clearly the leader in the industry in the Linux environment. While it's been out for a while it continues to be an emerging technology. By assisting our resellers with the partner enablement and giving the opportunity to get the certifications. I think we make them more valuable to the end-user that they're working with," said Cecilia Lessard, director of software for Tech Data.

"In selling the various training courses that we do sell for our business partners, the reseller also has the opportunity to add to their line card, which increases opportunity for service revenue," she said.

Jim Cooper, manager of TD Education team said that the training can be added on to a Tech Data order like any other product, making purchasing training easier for resellers than having to sign up through different vendors.

"The fact that the training can be purchased at Tech Data in the same order as buying product is a value-add for them. They can leverage their Tech Data credit relationships to purchase training instead of having to go out and create a new relationship," he said.

Red Hat will still deliver the training, but resellers and end-customers can work with Tech Data to schedule sessions.
