Trend Micro has deauthorized Synnex as a distributor as part of a streamlining of its channel program for 2008, the security vendor said.
"Synnex has been a tremendous partner for over four years. We're working with their executive team to transition all [solution providers]. We continue to be 100 percent channel," said Nancy Reynolds, vice president for channel and SMB sales, North America, at Trend Micro.
Synnex executives could not be reached for comment.
Trend Micro products continue to be available through Ingram Micro, Tech Data, Westcon Group, The Douglas Stewart Company, and InterWork Technologies, according to Reynolds.
The security software vendor consolidated distributors in Canada two years ago and expects the deauthorization of Synnex in the U.S. to mean little disruption for VARs.
"In many cases, [VARs buying Trend Micro through Synnex] are already doing business with our existing distributors. We're going to make sure the transition is smooth," she said.
Ingram Micro is working with Trend Micro to take on the extra business, said Jodi Honore, vice president of software vendor management at Ingram Micro.
"One of the things we're working on is developing new VARs with them. We're helping to recruit, train and enable those VARs," Honore said. "They're growing in a highly-competitive space. To partner with them is a very good thing for Ingram. They had a really good year with us."
