Oracle Doubles Resellers In VAD Remarketer Initiative

Oracle also expanded the portfolio of products solution providers can sell through the VAD Remarketer program, adding Weblogic Server Standard Edition, Internet Developer Suite and Universal Content Management Standard Edition, among others. Altogether 10 Oracle products, including the Oracle Standard Edition and Oracle Standard Edition One databases, are available to resellers through the program.

Oracle launched the VAD Remarketer effort in mid-2007 in an effort to make it easier for resellers to sell Oracle software. Under the initiative solution providers can acquire the products for resale through distributors such as Tech Data and Ingram Micro without having a direct contractual relationship with Oracle.

By not requiring solution providers to join the Oracle PartnerNetwork and pay associated fees, the vendor aimed to encourage smaller resellers who serve SMB customers to sell Oracle products. A major goal for the program is to attract resellers who carry competing Microsoft products such as Microsoft's SQL Server database.

Last week Oracle said some new 500 resellers have participated in the VAD Remarketer program since May of this year, joining the 550 resellers who took advantage of the program during its first year. Oracle also said resellers have conducted more than 700 transactions through the program since May, more than the 650 transactions conducted in the program's first year.
