Intel Raises 2Q Outlook

The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company also said it expected its gross profit margin for the quarter to be between 60 percent and 61 percent. That, too, was slightly more optimistic than it had previously forecast.

Earlier this quarter, Intel said it expected its revenue for the quarter to range between $7.6 billion and $8.2 billion, with a gross margin percentage of 60 percent, give or take a couple of points.

"Demand for Intel Architecture [processor] products is consistent with the company's expectations at the beginning of the quarter and significantly higher than in the same period last year," Intel said in a statement.

The company was even more optimistic about its recently reorganized communications group, where it said brisk sales of its flash products were well above expectations so far in the quarter.

Otherwise, all of its previous expectations remained unchanged, the company said.

Executives were expected to provide additional details in a late-day conference call with financial analysts.
