Paul Harrison has officially replaced Andy Dow as the head of Dell's UK Channel Lead, the computer manufacturer has confirmed. The move comes after Dow abruptly left Dell last month.
Dell refused to comment on the circumstances under which Dow left the Round Rock, Texas-based computer manufacturer.
Harrison takes over as the head man in the UK channel after serving as the company's UK and Ireland EqualLogic manager, where he was responsible for the direct and partner lead sales. The previous positions Harrison held before coming to the top spot in the company's UK channel operation included head of internal sales and operations for the UK public sector business. He also managed the City of London business for Dell's corporate accounts.
Harrison left IBM in 2001 to join Dell.
"I am pleased to announce that Paul Harrison is Dell's new UK channel lead," said Greg Davis, Dell's global channel chief. "Paul brings a wealth of knowledge of the technology industry, the partner community, and Dell to this role. I am confident that the channel will find Paul a good advocate for partners, and he will be reaching out to the EMEA channel in the coming weeks."
The position vacated by Andy Dow was originally created as part of Dell's move to restructure its channel program on a global scale, first announced last December. As part of that restructuring Greg Davis was elevated to global channel chief and Emmanuel Mouquet was tapped to run the Europe, Middle East and Asia (EMEA) channel.
However, Dell's EMEA channel hasn't come through the restructuring unscathed. In addition to Dow's departure, the computer manufacturer announced it would be laying off 1,900 employees in its Limerick, Ireland, manufacturing plant. The company closed the plant in order to shift production from Ireland to an existing plant in Poland and third-party OEM manufacturers. Layoffs will begin in April and are expected to be completed by January 2010.
The move to lay off the employees is part of a companywide plan to reduce annual costs by $3 billion.
