Atos Origin has extended its contract with the International Olympic Committee to serve as the IT systems integrator for the Games through 2016. After Vancouver in 2010 and London in 2012, Atos Origin will provide IT systems for the Sochi Olympic Winter Games in 2014 in Russia and the Olympic Games in 2016, the host country of which will be announced on Oct. 2. The Houston-based solution provider ranked No. 19 on Everything Channel's 2009 VAR500 list.
"Atos Origin, our long-term partner, is the brains behind the technology operations for the Olympic Games, consistently delivering high-quality services on schedule," said Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee, in a statement.
"Managing this highly complex project and coordinating all the necessary cutting-edge technologies requires exceptional expertise to combine processes, technologies and the skills of both our staff and of other partners," said Thierry Breton, chairman and CEO of Atos Origin, also in a statement.
The arrangement extends for four years the largest sports-related IT contract ever awarded, and strengthens a partnership of more than 20 years between the Olympics and Atos Origin.
Atos Origin integrates, manages and secures the IT system that relays competition results and information about athletes in less than 0.3 seconds to spectators and media outlets around the world.
Following each game, Atos Origin documents the best practices used, in order to share the expertise, processes, technologies and people between Olympiads. Those experiences are then implemented with Atos Origin's other clients across various business sectors.
