Smartronix (2009 VARBusiness 500 Rank No. 304) is the recipient of a $9.5 million contract through the General Services Administration (GSA) to oversee and implement the redesign of Recovery.gov, the federal government's lead site for tracking projects and spending for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
According to the GSA, the contract could be worth close to $18 million if all options are exercised through the beginning of 2014.
"Recovery.gov 2.0 will use innovative and interactive technologies to help taxpapers see where their dollars are being spent," said James A. Williams, Commissioner of the GSA's Federal Acquisition Service, in a statement. "Armed with easy access to this information, taxpayers can make government more accountable for its decisions."
Smartronix didn't respond to a request for comment except to say, through a spokesman, they would provide more details shortly. The company posted a notice to its Web site confirming it had won the contract and saying a formal press release was being planned.
Smartronix has a deadline of mid-October from the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, which was part of the reason the GSA awarded the contract ahead of schedule. According to the GSA, the entire procurement process was completed in 31 days.
The Smartronix contract is the first one to be awarded under GSA Alliant, which is a 10-year, multiple-award, government-wide acquisition contract. Smartronix in March announced it had been confirmed to participate in GSA Alliant.
"This is a tremendous opportunity to show our community the value and expertise of a mid-tier company," said David MacRae, Smartronix executive vice president, at the time. "We are honored to be named an Alliant prime (recipient) and look forward to working with our industry partners to offer the best possible products and services available to our existing and future federal civilian and Department of Defense customers."
According to the GSA, 59 companies competed for the Recovery.gov award.
"We are pleased that another major milestone has been achieved," said Earl Devaney, chairman of the Recovery Board, in a statement. "We thank the GSA for its assistance and look forward to working with Smartronix."
Hollywood, Md.-based Smartronix's specialties aren't so much in Web design as security products and services, network and infrastructure design and IT consulting services. The federal space is its largest vertical market served and it partners with Microsoft, Dell, Websense, Oracle, EMC, NetApp, Symantec, Cisco and other large vendors. The company was recently ranked among the fastest growing solution providers on the 2009 VARBusiness 500 list.
