Candera Creates Channel Program For Intelligent SATA Storage

To help boost sales of its enterprise-class Serial ATA (SATA) arrays, Candera is rolling out new initiatives to make it easier for solution providers to work with the company and increase their margins--including, for the first time, a two-tier partner program.

Authorized partners will be required to buy a $2,500 reseller kit and undergo sales training and engineering certification classes at the vendor's offices. In return, those partners will get access to Web-based services and the Candera logo, become eligible for direct marketing and sales assistance, and get listed on Candera's Web-based reseller locator. Larger solution providers qualify at the Platinum level if they commit to a $1 million annual sales target and submit quarterly business plans, Sundaresh said. On top of the Authorized-level benefits, they also qualify for on-site sales and presales support plus direct engagements with Candera sales and marketing executives.

Both types of partners also are eligible for Candera's new opportunity registration program, which enables them to get additional discounts and pre- and post-sales support, Sundaresh said. They also get access to Candera Credit for purchasing and leasing help as well as to demo units at up to 70 percent off list price.

Candera's intelligent, SATA-based storage arrays address business-critical, disk-to-disk backup and reference data applications. Though the arrays don't handle mission-critical applications, they offer a unique value-add in how they scale, Sundaresh said. Each array comes with its own network storage controller that allows failover to other controllers in case of a problem. So as an array is added to the network, the additional controller actually increases the performance of the storage network, he said.

The controllers also can be purchased as stand-alone devices to work with non-Candera storage arrays. Each controller can handle a maximum of four arrays, each with up to 4 Tbytes of capacity. For more than 16 Tbytes of capacity, multiple controllers can be connected via Fibre Channel.

"We make it all look like one pool of storage," said Stephen Terlizzi, vice president of marketing and business development at Candera.
