Avnet Exits Reseller Business With Sale Of ProSys To ACS

Distributor Avnet has sold the ProSys solution provider business it got with its acquisition last year of Bell Microproducts to another solution provider, Applied Computer Solutions.

Phoenix-based Avnet on Tuesday said it sold ProSys to ACS Acquisition Corp., an affiliate of Applied Computer Solutions. Terms of the deal were not revealed.

Avnet, unlike many of its fellow distributors, did not have a reseller arm until it acquired Bell Micro in July of 2010. At the time of that acquisition, Avnet made it clear that it would "explore strategic alternatives" for ProSys.

Atlanta-based ProSys had revenue of about $450 million in calendar year 2009, Avnet said in July. Avnet on Tuesday said ProSys had revenue of $417.9 million in the twelve months ended June 30, 2010, and currently employs 360 people. Its business is focused on developing customized IT solutions from multiple vendors for enterprise, public sector, and educational customers.

Huntington Beach, Calif.-based ACS provides its customers with enterprise IT solutions, including systems, storage, security, networking, and virtualization.

Avnet received two other businesses when it acquired Bell Micro.

Rorke Data, the Eden Prairie, Minn.-based assembler storage appliances sold to OEM customers and via its own Galaxy brand name, will remain as a part of Avnet.

Avnet also got a second solution provider, TotalTec. However, since the acquisition, Avnet has rolled TotalTec into the ProSys entity which is being acquired by ACS.

Neither Avnet nor ACS executives were available to comment on ACS' acquisition of ProSys.

However, Rick Hamada, Avnet president and COO, said in a statement, "This transaction divests a non-core asset and will allow ProSys to join one of the largest and fastest growing resellers in North America focused exclusively on end-user customers ... Avnet Technology Solutions has enjoyed a long and successful partnership with Applied Computer Solutions and we look forward to expanding that relationship with the addition of ProSys to their business."
