Tech Data named Joe Quaglia president of TDMobility, the distributor's mobile solutions business unit. Quaglia has been senior vice president of U.S. marketing at Tech Data since 2007 and will retain that role, according to Tech Data. He will report to Murray Wright, president of the Americas for Tech Data.

The TDMobility unit is operated by ActivateIT, a joint venture between Tech Data and Brightstar that was formed in 2011. It serves about 60,000 solution providers involved in the mobile market with hardware, software and service plan and activation solutions, according to Tech Data.

Last fall, TDMobility added Research In Motion's BlackBerry solutions to its line card.

"We are proud to have a strong leader like Joe to head TDMobility," said Wright in a statement. "The mobility business represents a strategic growth area for the company, and having dedicated leadership in place is valuable for our reseller customers, vendor and carrier partners and our joint venture partner, Brightstar. This appointment reflects our confidence in Joe's leadership capabilities and affirms our commitment to mobility in the channel."

As senior vice president of U.S. marketing, Quaglia continues to be responsible for Tech Data's product marketing, Advanced Infrastructure Solutions and TDAgency divisions.

Quaglia joined Tech Data in 2006 as vice president of East region sales and government sales. He previously was with CA Technologies for 10 years and held senior management positions with StorageNetworks and Atabok.
