Oracle: Upcoming OpenWorld To Be More Partner-Focused

The partner sessions, now officially called the Oracle PartnerNetwork Exchange @ OpenWorld, are expected to attract more than 4,000 partners this fall.

Oracle OpenWorld, which has grown to more than 50,000 attendees, officially begins on Sunday evening, Sept. 30, with opening keynotes from Oracle executives and other speakers. A number of years ago Oracle began holding partner-specific sessions during the day on Sunday, but until now it's remained somewhat apart from the rest of the conference.

With the launch of the Oracle PartnerNetwork Exchange @ OpenWorld, Oracle is "properly and officially integrating the Oracle OpenWorld and Oracle PartnerNetwork experience," said Lydia Smyers, Oracle vice president of worldwide alliances and channel programs and communications, in an interview. "We're truly mainstreaming the event."

This year's partner events will include more than 30 sessions that bring in Oracle product managers to brief partners on new Oracle technology. And partners will have the opportunity to take certification tests for more than 80 OPN partner specialties -- a program that's been in pilot mode at previous Oracle OpenWorld shows.

The Oracle PartnerNetwork Exchange @ OpenWorld also will include business track sessions that provide training to help solution providers manage their businesses and build out their professional service offerings. And solution providers will have more opportunities for partner-to-partner and partner-to-customer networking, according to Smyers.

In addition, more than 450 partners will be exhibiting on the show floor in five partner pavilions focused on CRM applications, Linux, Oracle's Hyperion business analytics software, Oracle's J.D. Edwards applications, and retail systems.
