IBM U.S. midmarket executive Wilfredo Sotolongo is moving to a new job with the System x team and Bill Donohue, currently with the System x organization, is taking over Sotolongo's duties, IBM confirmed.

IBM did not say why the executives were changing jobs, but IBM routinely rotates executives through different management positions.

Donohue has been serving as vice president of System x sales. Before that he was vice president of general business sales in the Global Business Partner organization, managing worldwide business partner revenue.

Sotolongo was named to the business partner and midmarket post in October 2010. Before that he worked in the System x operations and has been with IBM for 25 years. In his new post he will be reporting to Adalio Sanchez, general manager of IBM's System x business.

As vice president of business partner and midmarket sales, Sotolongo has played a key role in IBM's North American partner program, which accounts for $5.5 billion in annual sales. He managed the details of the company's partner initiatives, including setting goals for North American channel partners, as he outlined in a presentation at the IBM PartnerWorld Leadership Conference in New Orleans in March.

Sotolongo addressed attendees of the XChange Solution Provider 2012 conference in Los Angeles where he detailed plans to help channel partners focus on business analytics, mobility, and virtualization and cloud computing.
