HTG: VARs Should Focus More On Leadership, Management Training

Sorensen, CEO of Heartland Tech Groups (HTG), believes that a lack of "bench strength" for executive and management personnel often creates a roadblock for solution providers' growth. Sorensen's company recently held its HTG Summit 2012, which brought together more than 250 VARs to share best practices and advice. One of the big focuses this year was leadership training, which he says is undervalued by many solution providers.

"We spend tens of thousands of dollars sending people to technical training," Sorenson said, "[but] if we have to spend $99 to send someone to a leadership class, we freak out."

Sorensen also said HTG Summit tracks emphasized building a strong corporate culture, finding the right talent, and other leadership strategies. "We're building this program to really drive some change," he said.
