Tech Data turned to one of its competitors to hire a new vice president of sales, technical services.
The Clearwater, Fla.-based distributor has named ex-Ingram Micro executive Bill Brooks to head up technical services. Brooks spent more than 25 years at Ingram, most recently as senior director of technical support and customer service. He was in charge of Ingram's customer service and technical support teams and was also responsible for identifying and implementing operational efficiency opportunities, according to Tech Data.
At Tech Data, Brooks replaces Barb Miller, who stepped down a couple months ago after almost 9 years with the distributor.
Brooks is in charge of Tech Data's 6,000-square-foot Technology Solutions Center in Clearwater, as well as TDOnCall technical services and pre-sales technical support teams. In addition, he will lead Tech Data's TDEducation reseller training and certification services and the distributor's government-focused TechEDG team and the TechMED healthcare-focused organization.
"We are excited to add an accomplished industry veteran like Bill to our team and are confident that his leadership experience will be an asset to Tech Data," said Pete Peterson, senior vice president of U.S. sales at Tech Data, in a statement. "Bill has been intimately involved with the development of the support approach in the IT channel throughout several decades, and he is extremely customer-focused. His leadership will promote collaboration on our teams, while keeping a strong focus on Tech Data’s customer-centric mentality."
