Tech Data Corporation has expanded its relationship with ASUS to distribute the new ASUS Taichi, a convertible notebook and tablet device. The system is designed with a back-to-back dual-screen design that enables users to switch between tablet and notebook in a single touch.

"We are always looking to align more strategically with our vendors, and we've certainly seen a significant growth in Asus' commitment to product innovation and to the channel," said Greg Parsonson, vice president of product marketing for client systems at Tech Data. "We have the entire line of Asus products including their notebooks, the tablets, and now their convertible devices."

Parsonson went on to say that Tech Data was drawn to the Asus convertible based on the customer value of getting two devices in one. "Our customers can get the benefits of the notebook with the flexibility and form factor of the tablet, both of which are becoming more prominent, given the capabilities of Windows 8. In addition, the real differentiator with the Taichi is the dual-screen format. So, this is an especially great option for situations that require face-to-face interaction."

In addition to Windows 8, the overall value proposition includes an Intel Core processor and two back-to-back full HD screens.

"I think this could be a great opportunity out of the gates for both Asus and Tech Data," said Parsonson. "There are two sides to Asus. They began on the component side and in recent years have demonstrated excellent innovation on the finished goods hardware side. They may not be a household name, but the products speak for themselves. They're definitely ready for prime time in the business world."

ASUS claims more than 11,000 employees around the globe, including a team of 3,100 research and development engineers. Company revenue for 2011 was approximately $11.9 billion.
