In top stories this week, Ford CEO Alan Mulally said he will definitely not be the next Microsoft CEO. Mulally ended the speculation that he would succeed Steve Ballmer by telling the Associated Press he has no plans to leave Ford before the end 2014. Microsoft shares dipped 1.7 percent in the wake of the report.

Intel is immediately phasing out the McAfee brand name. All security products launched in 2014 will be rebranded as Intel Security Products, and McAfee channel field sales and support staff will remain in place. The brand change is reportedly a strategic move toward a more unified and connected approach to marketing products under the Intel brand.

Lastly, CRN Senior Editor Rob Wright returned from the Consumer Electronics Show this week, declaring the show the "year of the smart device." Wright gives a roundup of the biggest trends he saw out of CES, and the impact they will have on the channel in 2014.
