Lenovo Taps PC Group Veteran Tom Shell To Replace Former VP Parker

Lenovo has been quick to replace former Enterprise Business Group Vice President Jay Parker, today naming company veteran Tom Shell as his successor.

Shell has been with Lenovo since 2006, most recently running the company's PC Business Group. Parker's resignation as head of the Enterprise Business Group was announced late last week.

Dell confirmed earlier this week that it had hired Parker as vice president and general manager, North America Enterprise Solutions.

David Felton, founder of Lenovo partner Norwalk, Conn.-based Canaan Technology, told CRN Lenovo's channel program is strong enough that the comings and goings of even top executives don't really affect Canaan Tech.

"Whoever is in charge of the channel, whatever happens outside of their purview is not relevant," Felton said. "If they hired an executive away from Lenovo who was in charge of the channel, I'd have a different opinion."

Canaan Tech has been a Lenovo partner for about five years and does a lot of business with SMBs. Felton said he gets far more attention from Lenovo than he does from some other big-name vendors he sells. "They just seem to value my business and recognize it," he said.

Shell's new assignment is accompanied by a couple of other executive moves at the China-based PC giant, including 20-year Lenovo veteran Johnson Jia, taking Shell's place as senior vice president of the PC Business Group, and Guan Wei, former CEO of Lenovo's manufacturing joint venture with Taiwanese company Compal Electronics, taking Jia's former position as vice president of PC and enterprise global operations.

At Dell, Parker replaced Curtis Hutcheson as vice president and general manager, North America Enterprise Solutions, which partners praised as a strong move for Dell's channel. Hutcheson was made head of Dell Security Solutions about five months ago.

Parker was senior vice president of Lenovo's Enterprise Business Group for less than six months. Prior to that, he spent three years as the company's North American president.

Parker was a marketing executive at Dell for more than a decade before jumping to Lenovo in 2007.
