Dell Technologies' New Organizational Structure Takes Shape

Dell Technologies Chairman and CEO Michael Dell has established the new Dell EMC organizational structure with 14 top executives, including three high-level EMC leaders, reporting to him directly.

The new organizational structure relies heavily on the key EMC and Dell executives that have been running their respective businesses.

Partners, in fact, have praised Dell's steady hand in cementing the group that would take the $74 billion IT behemoth into the future, saying making swift, unobtrusive changes to corporate leadership ensures continuity for partners and customers.

Dell's executive group includes the leaders of Dell Technologies companies that are run independently: VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger; SecureWorks President and CEO Mike Cote; Pivotal CEO Rob Mee; and Rodney Rogers, CEO of Virtustream. Rogers will also report to enterprise boss David Goulden.

Goulden is president of Dell Technologies' Enterprise Systems Group, and is responsible for the company's server, storage, networking and converged infrastructure solutions. The former CEO of EMC's Information Infrastructure division reports directly to Michael Dell. Goulden's direct reports include Bill Scannell, head of enterprise sales; Rogers; RSA CEO Amit Yoran; and Rohit Ghai, president of the to-be-sold Enterprise Content Division.

Also reporting directly to Michael Dell is Marius Haas, president and chief commercial officer. Haas has been with Dell for about four years, and previously spent more than a decade at Dell archrival Hewlett-Packard. In Haas' current position, he has responsibility for all of Dell Technologies' commercial business. Global Channel Chief John Byrne is among Haas' direct reports.

Rory Read and Howard Elias, who report to Michael Dell, were made co-chief integration of_ cers soon after the Dell-EMC merger was announced. At the time, Read, formerly president at both AMD and Lenovo, had been with Dell for a little more than six months as COO. Elias is a longtime EMC executive and had been that company's COO.

As the new Dell Technologies chief marketing officer, Jeremy Burton reports directly to Michael Dell. He was previously president of products and marketing at EMC. Former Dell CMO Karen Quintos will report to Michael Dell as executive vice president and chief customer officer. Burton started at EMC in 2010, and was previously president and CEO of Serena Software.

Jeff Clarke, who also reports directly to Michael Dell, has been working side by side with Michael Dell longer than any other executive, joining in 1987, just three years after Dell founded the company. Clarke, the long-serving head of the company's PC business. maintains his position as vice chairman and president, operations and client solutions.

Suresh Vaswani, who reports to Michael Dell, maintains his title as president of Dell Services. Vaswani has been with Dell about six years, and was previously chairman of Dell India. Before joining Dell, Vaswani spent more than 25 years at Wipro, including a stint as co-CEO. Dell is set to sell its services business to NTT for about $3.1 billion.

Also reporting to Michael Dell, John Swainson maintains his position as president of Dell Software. The IBM veteran and former senior adviser at Dell's private equity partner Silver Lake Partners has been with Dell for the better part of five years. In June, Dell reached an agreement to sell the software business to Francisco Partners and the private equity arm of activist hedge fund Elliott Management for more than $2 billion.

Two Dell operational executives who will remain in their positions and report directly to Michael Dell are CFO Tom Sweet, and Steve Price, the company's head of human resources. Sweet and Price both joined the company in 1997.
