Intel Bumps Up Speed Of Fastest Centrino

The Pentium M 765 runs at 2.1GHz, packs 2MB of Level 2 cache, and uses Intel's power-saving technologies to extend battery life, said Intel. The previous top spot in the Centrino package was held by the 2GHz 755 processor.

Intel's newest mobile CPU is available now to system integrators and laptop manufacturers at a price of $637 each in lots of 1,000.

On Tuesday, Intel slashed prices of its Centrino-oriented processors by between 10 and 30 percent. The Pentium M 755's price, for instance, was cut from $709 to $495 to make room for the new 765.
