Channel Beat: Retirement, Partner Cuts And Layoffs

After 35 years at Intel, Global Channel Chief Steve Dallman is announcing his plans to retire. The vice president will leave the company next month, according to an internal memo Dallman sent out. Most recently, Dallman served as general manager of Intel's worldwide reseller channel organization. The responsibility of that division will fall entirely into the hands of Intel channel executive Maurits Tichelman, who was named co-general manager of RCO with Dallman in late 2012.

With a brand-new review process, Trend Micro is cutting and demoting partners it feels are not meeting the security company's standards. Trend Micro cut at least 600 underperforming partners in 2013, and demoted others to a lower status in order to focus resources on its best partners. Another 12 percent to 15 percent of partners could be affected this year, according to the company.

NetApp is planning to lay off roughly 600 people as part of a business realignment, in what the company calls a "constrained IT spending environment." Channel partners say the layoffs appear to be related to slower-than-expected customer adoption of NetApp's clustered data OnTap technology, and partners do not expect the layoffs to impact NetApp’s channel sales.
