Avnet launched a public-sector-focused group, Avnet Government Solutions, at the XChange Public Sector conference this week.
Ray Ramey will lead the new venture. Ramey is a 30-year veteran of the IT industry, previously serving as CFO of Pepperweed Consulting, which Avnet acquired in 2012.
Ramey told CRN that Avnet Government Solutions’ will focus on the federal market, particularly the intelligence community, as well as the state, local, and education markets.
Avnet Government Solutions will work to improve “agility” in the public sector, which notoriously moves through much red tape. Ramey said he hopes to “make changes quickly in the government space,” bringing technology up to speed with the most current trends.
“All the changes taking place are completely relevant to the government space as well,” said Ramey, referencing the Internet of Things and cloud computing.
Avnet promises industry expertise and consulting for solution providers looking to enter the public sector. “We can be an aggregator and we can actually help them bring their products to market,” said Ramey.
