Channel Beat: Samsung Beats Apple To Market

/**/ /**/

In this week's top stories, Samsung unveiled two smartphones and a smartwatch this week, beating Apple’s iPhone 6 and iWatch to market.

Samsung showed off the Galaxy Note 4, a step up from the Note 3. It’s expected to hit markets in October. The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge features a curved side touch screen that operates independently of the front display. Samsung's new Gear S Watch made its debut as the first smartwatch that can take and make calls with 3G connectivity, and runs on Tizen.

Samsung's new product line may be to blame for a drop in Apple's share price, which took a beating right after Samsung’s unveiling. Apple shares closed down about 4 percent Wednesday following Samsung’s announcement.

Cisco expanded its UCS portfolio this week, calling the new line its biggest UCS refresh ever. The new line includes Cisco's M-series of modular servers, completely new products aimed at large enterprise and cloud service provider markets. Cisco also debuted the UCS Mini, which bundles servers, storage and networking into one solution. And Cisco refreshed its line of B-series blade servers and C-series rack mount servers.

Cisco said it is not looking to compete with HP’s Moonshot, but partners say they expect Cisco will use the new M-series to enter market areas currently dominated by HP and Dell.
