Bit9, Datto Among 2,000 Techies Raising Big Money For Nonprofits

One Boston event will bring together 2,000 members of the technology community this week to raise more than $500,000 for innovative nonprofits.

Two-thousand members of the New England technology community, including channel-focused security vendors Bit9 and Datto, and Twitter will come together this week to raise money for Boston-area entrepreneurship nonprofits through TUGG -- a 501(c)(3) organization also known as "Technology Underwriting Greater Good." Other attendees include big data vendor Teradata and cloud-based application security provider Veracode.

TUGG's annual fundraising party will bring together "the largest and most diverse representation of tech startups in Boston under one roof for one night to raise over $500,000 for six nonprofits," said TUGG's Zoe Anetakis.

The six nonprofits will pitch the crowd of heavy-hitting techies for votes, and the winner will walk away with a check for $50,000. The nonprofit portfolio includes Build, which "uses entrepreneurship to excite" high school students, as well as Year Up, which empowers low-income young adults to start professional careers in a year's time. Another nonprofit is Technology for Autism Now, which provides families of children with autism with innovative technology solutions and mobile applications aimed at improving quality of life, communication and education.

"It's an incredible way to celebrate innovation, both in the tech community and in the nonprofit community," Anetakis said.

The TUGG event will take place Thursday, April 16,in Boston.
