Channel Beat: Acquisition Deals Flood IT Market

This week has provided a ton of M&A news, from cloud vendors to security firms. First off, HP continues to battle with Cisco in the service provider space.

HP acquired SDN innovator ConteXtream, a provider of OpenDaylight-based, carrier-grade SDN fabric. HP partners have cheered on the deal, which boosts HP’s standing in network functions virtualization.

EMC paid $1.2 billion in cash for cloud software and IaaS firm Virtustream.

The move should lift EMC’s presence in the hybrid cloud market. Virtustream also will give EMC a roster of enterprise customers including Coca-Cola, Heinz and Hess.

In the security space, the channel saw two big acquisition deals this week.

Palo Alto Networks boosted its SaaS application security portfolio with the acquisition of Cirrosecure. Palo Alto Networks revealed the deal duringits third-quarter earnings call but did not disclose further details.

Fortinet is focusing on the enterprise secure wireless market with its acquisition of Meru Networks, a move that will up the company’s competition with big networking players including Cisco.

Meru Networks is a $90.9 million company, which Fortinet will acquire for around $44 million.
