Channel Beat: A Reverse Acquisition Between EMC And VMware?

This week, Re/code reported EMC is considering an unusual move -- the company may be acquired by its own subsidiary, VMware.

EMC has faced pressure from investor Elliott Management to spin off VMware, but Re/code's sources said EMC is considering a downstream merger. VMware shares dropped more than 5 percent in the final hour of trading after the Re/code report. Spokespeople for both companies declined comment.

Accuvant and FishNet Security have officially merged into a $1.5 billion security solutions provider, now known as Optiv Security.

The two companies have spent the last six months working on the deal, and announced the new company this week in Las Vegas at Black Hat USA 2015.

Accuvant CEO Dan Burns remains CEO of the new Optiv, and said Optiv will become more of a solutions-focused company. Optiv also will look to invest in managed services.

CDW reported an increase of 25 percent in net income in its second quarter, rounding out at $108.2 million.

CDW announced earnings this week, as well as the news that it has acquired the last of its solution provider, Kelway. CDW paid $431 million for the company.

CDW's revenue was up 6.7 percent from last year’s period.
