Symantec Selling Veritas: Mixed Reaction From Solution Providers

/**/ /**/

Symantec will close a deal to sell its data storage business Veritas by Jan. 1, 2016, but some solution providers say the deal just did not come soon enough.

’Veritas, haven’t touched it for about 15 years,’ said Steven Freidkin, president of Washington, D.C.-area solution provider Ntiva. ’Honestly, I’m completely indifferent. The solutions we’ve moved to are far and away from Veritas.’ Freidkin added that Symantec ’hasn’t had a competitive product in, honestly, the last 10-plus years.’

Richard Fly of Scottsdale, Ariz.based solution provider iT1 Source called the sale a ’logical move’ but said he thinks it is "a little too late for them.’

But not everyone in the channel feels that way. For Xclutel Executive Vice President Brent Allen, the sale has brought his interest back to Symantec.

’I’m very intrigued to see how it works out,’ he said. After hearing the news, Allen signed up for Symantec at the vendor’s demo room at the XChange 2015 conference in Washington, D.C.

’I wasn’t a big fan, so it’s kind of bringing me back to see what’s up,’ he added.
