Google surprised just about everyone this week when the company revealeda massive restructuring that has created a holding company named Alphabet.

In much less surprising news, Symantec will sell its data storage business, Veritas, to the Carlyle Group and GIC for $8 billion.

The deal is expected to close by Jan. 1, 2016. That deadline comes just after the company plans to complete its split into two separate companies. Symantec acquired Veritas in 2005 for $10.2 billion, but partners are strongly in favor of the sale.
