Cheryl Cook, Dell vice president of global channels and alliances, took the stage at this week’s Women of the Channel event in New York, where she shared her most important leadership values.

Cook called the values her five C’s: competency, confidence, competitiveness, collaboration and community.

When it comes to competency, Cook said, keeping up with the rapid pace of change in the IT industry is key.

’We have to stay on top of the trends and capabilities,’ she said.

’There’s no reason for you not to be confident,’ she added on her second ’C.’

Competitiveness comes naturally to Cook, who said ’I like winning.’ Competitiveness drives the right business outcomes, she said.

’And I also think we absolutely have to be collaborative,’ Cook said.

’When you can be collaborative and people understand that you’re there to help their success -- not just my success at your expense -- and really playing from a team perspective, that absolutely will help take you to the next level,’ she said.

Finally, despite how busy professional life may become, it’s important to give back in the community, whether that’s through charity foundations or volunteer work, said Cook.
