'The Tech Community At Its Best': TUGG Celebrates 10 Years Of Philanthropy

Tech moguls like Mark Zuckerberg have recently made headlines for their philanthropy missions, but Cambridge, Mass.-based TUGG -- Tech Underwriting Greater Good -- has been at it for 10 years.

"We are the strongest engagement platform in New England that connects startups and tech entrepreneurs with the riskiest, most innovative nonprofits serving local youths," said TUGG Executive Director Zoe Anetakis.

In 2006, TUGG put on its first charity event for the tech community, a wine party.

"Ten years later, we're looking at 2,000 people attending this event. Over the last 10 years we’ve catalyzed over 30 nonprofits and granted a million dollars, all through the power of the community. We call it open-source philanthropy, and it's really the tech community at its best," she said.

Carbon Black, Rapid 7, Threat Stack, Data Robot and Hopper are just a few of the New England tech companies behind TUGG's 10th annual charity event, which will take place in Boston on April 7.

It will be an opportunity for tech companies to come together to grant two $50,000 prizes to area nonprofits. TUGG's nonprofit portfolio includes WeThrive, which teaches entrepreneurship, First Teacher and MassLEAP.

For attendees, huge raffle prizes are up for grabs, including a four-day European bicycle tour made possible by DuVine.
