HP Inc. Declares It Has Beaten Apple At Its Own Game

HP Inc. singled out Apple as a rival in the personal systems space at its first-ever Global Partner Conference as an independent company in Boston Monday, as executives from the company declared HP Inc. the leader in innovation and engineering strategy in the space.

’Apple has defined premium design for decades,’ said President of Personal Systems Ron Coughlin. ’Even at HP, we treated Apple as an untouchable part of the market.’

’Well, my news to you today is that Apple is untouchable no more. Apple is leading design trends no more. Apple is leading innovation no more. Apple is gaining market share no more. Apple is growing no more, it’s HP who’s gaining that share,’ Coughlin added.

Coughlin specifically pointed to to second-quarter 2016 PC shipments, which showed HP Inc.’s first major rebound in the market after a dismal year. According to the IDC Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker, HP Inc. held 20.8 percent of the worldwide PC market during the quarter, while Apple held just 7.1 percent, also trailing Lenovo, Dell and Asus.

Apple introduced two new smartphones last week alongside a new Apple Watch but did not offer a refresh to its MacBook line.
